Administration

We design and operate servers, copies, and on-call for your systems

We design, deploy, and operate servers, copies, and on-call. We start from your systems: hosts, virtualization, identity, copies, and who responds today. Then we stand up monitoring, change windows, and a restore test. We stay for the hourly package, 24/7 monitoring, and a monthly report.

What IT administration is

We look after servers, network, systems, copies, and access. Work follows a systems map, change windows, and an SLA. The aim is service availability and risk control.

Scope

We operate infrastructure inside the company and with a partner. At the start we assess risks, close gaps, and set up monitoring. Then the rhythm: patch, copy, on-call, and a report.

Tasks

We operate hosts, virtualization, and services, we watch performance, and we respond to an outage. The application, store, or platform runs to the contract, with an owner of the change.

Outcome

Stable infrastructure means configuration, on-call, and room to grow the product. Ongoing operations move to Opselis. You keep one escalation channel and a clear split of duties.

What you get from IT administration

Cost and availability

Several specialists for the price of one full-time administrator. On-call stays in place when one person is on leave. We are available according to the package, including 24/7 from Standard up.

Monitoring and copies

We watch host and service health 24/7. A copy has a restore test on the calendar, next to the backup job.

Team time

The product team keeps the sprint for the product. Opselis takes ongoing operations. You keep one ticket channel and a monthly report.

Specialization

We fit solutions to the stack. We work with ecommerce, software houses, fintech, and on-prem environments.

Analysis at the start

We review infrastructure and technology. We point out gaps, risks, and the order of changes. The start review is part of the retainer.

How it fits together

From the systems map to copies and on-call

First we understand the hosts, access, copies, and SLA. On that basis we put together the platform console, the cluster, alerts, and copies. Proxmox, Kubernetes, Grafana, and Proxmox Backup Server are what we use for that work every day.

  • Patch management covers hosts, hypervisors, and guests, with order depending on HA.
  • Identity and MFA are part of the retainer. We review them with the rest of the environment.
Proxmox VE, datacenter, nodes, CPU and storage
01, Proxmox

We stand up and operate a cluster you can see in one console

In Proxmox VE we sort out nodes, VMs, containers, storage, and HA. Patch and live migration of a running machine are on the calendar. Root is for an emergency path, with a named account and a trail.

Inventory

We record machines, CTs, network, and storage with an owner. We build guests from a golden image.

Change windows

We patch nodes and guests with PDB or HA order. Rollback is in the plan.

Access

Named accounts, 2FA, and a separate jump host. We log every login and task in the cluster.

Capacity

CPU, RAM, and storage have a threshold. We plan expansion before a guest starts swapping.

Kubernetes Dashboard, pods, CPU and memory
02, Kubernetes

We operate containers under the same care as VMs

When some services run on a cluster, administration covers nodes, certificates, storage class, and upgrade. Kubernetes sits on the same on-call as the rest of the environment.

Nodes

We patch OS, kubelet, and runtime in a change window. Drain and cordon come before a reboot.

Add-ons

Ingress, DNS, storage, and cert-manager. We write down versions and a configuration backup.

Observation

Pod and node health go to Grafana, on the same dashboard as the hosts.

Boundary

RBAC and NetworkPolicy. Administration uses a scoped role, with cluster-admin only for an emergency.

Grafana, dashboard catalog and data sources
03, Grafana

We watch hosts, VMs, and services on one on-call

Host, VM, cluster, and service have a dashboard. Disk, certificate, backup, and queue have a threshold. On-call gets a priority and a runbook, with context for the alert.

Scope

Linux, Windows where it is present, database, queue, and HTTP. One silence list for maintenance.

Priority

P1 is loss of service. P3 is an approaching certificate. The package says who wakes and when.

Correlation

Host and application sit side by side. A storage failure shows as storage, with the API timeout next to it.

Report

In the week we record how many alerts, how many change windows, and what stayed open. That is material for a review with you.

Proxmox Backup Server, datastore, retention and transfer
04, Backup

We keep a copy you can restore

Proxmox Backup Server or a second path outside the site. Retention, immutability, and a restore test are in the contract. A failed job is an alert, with an owner.

Scope

VMs, CTs, databases, and configuration. Vault secrets sit outside the same bucket as application data.

RPO and RTO

Written per system. We practice restore of a single file and of a whole machine.

Separate path

A second copy on other accounts. A ransomware event in production does not delete the only copy.

People

Who restores, in what order, with which DNS. A playbook available offline.

How we work

From the client systems to on-call

We start from your systems: hosts, access, copies, monitoring, and SLA. Then we stand up the agreed package: monitoring baseline, copies, change windows, and permissions. We stay for 24/7 monitoring, a weekly rhythm, and a monthly report.

  1. Systems We check hosts, access, copies, monitoring, and SLA. We agree what to put in so the environment is safe and scalable. That gives the scope: package, windows, and on-call.
  2. Baseline We deliver the agreed package and plan. Monitoring, copies, change windows, and permissions go in first. Changes go in order, with an owner and a trail.
  3. Checks We confirm the infrastructure works in real conditions. Restore test, alert, and a patch window. We close gaps before the rhythm starts.
  4. On-call After rollout we monitor 24/7 and respond according to the package. A report, an alert review, and a queue of planned work stay in the contract.
Work scope

IT administration services

We fit the scope to the company. The package covers operations and growth, together with response to a ticket.

  • Software installation and updates
  • Server, network, and platform configuration
  • Security patch installation
  • Backup configuration and a restore test
  • Host, service, and security monitoring
  • Outage response according to the package SLA
  • Automation of administrative tasks
  • Infrastructure design and growth
  • IAM, 2FA, and access lifecycle
  • Change windows, an audit trail, and a monthly report

We propose a scope that shows up in the backlog and in the report. An external team gives care without a hire on day one, and without loading the product with extra on-call.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What do package hours cover?

Hours cover planned work and standard tickets. 24/7 monitoring and automatic response are in every subscription package. Administrator response to an outage depends on the package: Basic on working days from 8:00 to 18:00, from Standard up 24/7.

How do you count hours?

We report usage in the month. Planned work is agreed in advance. If a month needs more, we agree an extra charge or a move to a higher package. Unused hours do not roll over unless we write that into the contract.

Do you take over an existing environment?

Yes. First a map of hosts, accounts, copies, and SLA. Then a monitoring and copy baseline. A rebuild starts only with an agreed scope.

Do you work in the cloud and on-prem?

Yes. Proxmox, Kubernetes, Linux, Windows where it is present, cloud, and hybrid. One on-call and one systems map, regardless of location.

What is the outage response time?

In Basic the administrator responds on working days from 8:00 to 18:00. In Standard and Premium administrator response is 24/7. In Premium the target is a response within 1 hour of an outage.

Does the server have to sit with Opselis?

No. We look after hosts at your site, in the cloud, or at another vendor. Configuration of items bought outside Opselis is in Standard and above.
